When brazing copper pipe if you can keep a very slow purge of nitrogen
or argon in it you will maintain an almost new clean appearance
internally. This should be very low pressure, less than 1 ps1 and an
opening the size of a pinhole in a taped off end. Almost no flow is
needed and should be maintained oxygen free until cooled. This will
prevnt any black soot or discoloration internaly. To clean an alkaly
solution is prefered such as tsp or sodium carbonate in hot
water folowed by hot clean water. This removes any oxidation of the
copper fittings and tubes prior to fit-up. Here is a page on the web
about copper used for medical gas piping

note nonflamable med gas cleaning #3. For any purpose anyone reading
this site may have I tend to think the med-gas cleanliness procedures
are more applicable than the flamable gas specs due to the idea it may
be used for consumables rather than just fuels.

TSP in 160 F water de-oxidises slightly tarnished copper quite well
      with a brief soaking
