Before Rihanna, there was La Lupe. La Lupe’s infectious voice and persona helped lay the foundation for Latin music in America. With an unmatched style, the celebrated Cuban-born singer shocked and delighted audiences with her vibrant, energetic and seductive delivery.

In honor of Caribbean Heritage Month, celebrate La Diva during a 3-part tribute starting at our home in CCCADI on Thursday, June 1st with a special film screening of “La Lupe: Queen of Soul.”

Then on Tuesday, June 6th uncover the truth behind La Lupe as a myth, with a panel discussion on the book “Demystifying A Diva”.

The panel will be followed by a tribute concert on Friday, June 9th at Aaron Davis Hall at the City College of New York featuring Caridad de La Luz “La Bruja,” Nina Rodriguez, and direct from Puerto Rico Calma Carmona; with special guest Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez, Mambo Legends, member of the Tito Puente Orchestra.

CCCADI, City College Center for the Arts (CCCA), and Pregones Theater are thrilled to bring you this exciting event that celebrates and deconstructs the legacy and life of this rebellious and enthralling music legend. Let the spirit of La Lupe give you
      fever. Join us!
