The Danish Institute at Athens invites you to a lecture in English by
Thursday 27 September 7 p.m.
Plato's late philosophy in the light of the Epinomis? Lecture in
English by Dr Erik Ostenfeld, Associate Professor, Classical Studies,
University of Aarhus.
It is debated whether this dialogue is by Plato, but if genuine, as Dr
Ostenfeld shall argue, it would give us Plato's summary of his final
view of the goal of life: seek wisdom (piety) via contemplation of the
divine stars and planets (i.e. via mathematical astronomy and a
mathematical physics). The cosmic order revealed by contemporary science
was for Plato due to cosmic psychic intervention which called for piety
and provided a `model' for human behaviour.
