All of which it is difficult for me personally to detach from the Mithraic context - at least not inappropriate vis-a-vis the Cave of the Nymphs. If David Ulansey is right, Mithras is Porphyry's lord of genesis as associated with Perseus, through which constellation the Milky Way runs.
I will dig a bit more on all of this - been 20 years since I read Ulansey's book, and was just noting the above from dipping back into it some here quickly online at Google books:
Not that all his ideas have been accepted universally. So much of course with Mithras must of course remain tentative.
