Art Opening: Audubon, Debs Park
- This Saturday, January 12th at 3:p.m.
In Partnership with the Arroyo Arts Collective, the Audubon Center at Debs Park presents "Bird's Flock" by David Orozco.
Using a multi-medium approach to sculptural form, David has captured an array of birds seen on the Audubon property. The woodpeckers are nesting, the cranes are migrating, and the others are loitering.
David Orozco is a lifelong resident of North East Los Angeles. His grandma showed him how to crochet when he was 8, leaving him with a skill in craft that turned over the years into a way of making, beyond simple fabric, what he thinks of as sculpture. Using fiber from string to fishing line to rope, from yarn and fabrics to paper and even video tape, he creates figures, patterns, clothing and more. An active contributor to the Institute for Figuring's Crocheted Coral Reef project, David's work has been seen in museums and galleries from New York to Tokyo, from London to Sydney. As a core member of Yarn Bombing Los Angeles, his mischief has been seen in the streets of our city, at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, and other museums and galleries in town. David's work has been seen locally at MorYork Gallery, Ave 50 Studio, and Future Studio. Self Help Graphics has selected him as one of their resident artists for 2013.
