      SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2012

L.A. COUNTY WANTS TO ADD $54.00 TO YOUR PROPERTY TAXES

Los Angeles County is considering imposing a $54.00 a year tax on property owners located with the Upper L.A. River Watershed. Atwater Village, along with other Northeast L.A. communities, is located within that watershed district.

The County sent out non-descript notices earlier in the week explaining proposed $54 yearly fee. The proposed fee is supposed to fund local and regional projects to help keep pollution out of stromwater and runoff. If approved the proposed fee would be collected with the property taxes beginning on the 2013-2014 County of Los Angeles property tax role.

The notice has a "protest form" if property owners choose to protest it. Property owners can also write a letter protesting the proposed fee. Letters should be sent to the: Board of Supervisors at PO Box 866006, Los Angeles, CA 90086. A written protest must identify the parcel address and assessor’s parcel number, and must be signed by the property owner.

There will also be a public hearing on the proposed fee:

I have been waiting for two years for this to arrive....quess what this started with the LA CITY Dept Pub Works to pay for the operations and maintenance of the Proposition O capital works...DPW got it thru the Board of Public Works but then it came to LA City Council no way they would put this up and it got buried for a few weeks...THEN apparently someone got the bright idea - lets put it on the county ta rolls via the county ...but the Sups didn't want to be blamed for $60M ta increase...SO someone got the State Legisature to pass a law to allow the County to do the stormwater fee and pass down the money to LACity to do O&M on our Prop O projects - for the LA River but they will probably include O&M for the Ballona Creek and Dominguez Channel Pro O projects....ALL because our LACC didn't want to take the hear...OBTW you have to pay even if your property has ZERO DISCHARGE of ANY stormwaterr....

          THEN the long term Stormwater Program to 2020 is for a total of $8BILLION of capital works and a say 6% O&M = 0.06x8B = $480,000,000 per year....= $480/parcel/year = x10 current ta increase....

Welcome to the real LA World of Unfunded but planned or future Obligations/Liabilities

When do people start voting with their feet....
