Cypress Park-Glassell Park CDO
- On Tuesday, October 8 between 5 & 8 p.m. the Department of City Planning will
conduct a public workshop on the proposed Community Design Overlay District
(CDO) for Cypress Park and Glassell Park. The meeting will be conducted at
the Church of the Divine Savior in the Church Hall, 610 Cypress Avenue in
Cypress Park. The boundaries of the proposed Overlay Zone are basically the
San Fernando Road corridor between the 110 and the 2 Freeways including all
of Taylor Yard, including some residential sections between Cypress and San
Fernando Road. The Overlay Zone also includes the entire Eagle Rock
Boulevard corridor in Glassell Park between San Fernando Road all the way up
to Avenue 40, (also) including some residential blocks and the area between
Eagle Rock Boulevard and Verdugo Road.
According to the Planning Department the intent of a CDO is; "to improve the
appearance and identity of the multi-residential, commercial, and industrial
areas for new projects. The CDO is an effective tool for promoting a
distinctive community character, improving the aesthetic attractiveness,
protecting areas of interest and providing a strong sense of place and
identity. These guidelines will be used to preserve unique architecture,
regulate signage, improve building facades and improve public space. These
guidelines will apply primarily to new projects or significant improvements
that require a building permit."
The purpose of the workshop is to discuss and examine options for the CDO.
Employees from the Dept. of City Planning will be attending and cover
specific provisions of the CDO. They are particularly interested in hearing
our opinions and concerns. It cannot be overstated how significant this
proposal is to our two communities primarily and secondarily to the entire
northeast. This is a chance to get involved at the beginning of the process,
become informed, and make a lasting difference.
