2nd Joint Iranian-Italian Archaeological Expedition in Khuzistan
For three weeks in February and March 2009, co-directors Vito Messina and Jafar Mehrkian led the joint Iranian-Italian Archaeological Expedition in Khuzistan. The team was in the field conducting laser scanning of the Hung-e Azhdar, Hung-e Yaralivand, and Hung-e Kamalvand rock reliefs, studying topography of the valley of Hung-e Azhdar and digging trial trenches near the boulder of Hung-e Azhdar. This second joint expedition was carried out by the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino in collaboration with the Iranian Center for Archaeological Research and several supporting organizations.
A web page reporting the expedition's activities has been published on the Parthia.com web site at http://parthia.com/khuzistan with several pictures of the Expedition's work and the laser scanning technique.
