VERMILLION - The Freedom Forum is accepting applications until March 31 for the seventh American Indian Journalism Institute set for June 3-22.

AIJI is the premier journalism training and summer internship program for Native American college students, with classes taught at the Freedom Forum's Al Neuharth Media Center in Vermillion.

Top graduates will earn six-week paid internships as reporters, copy editors, photographers and multimedia journalists at daily newspapers and The Associated Press starting about July 1.

The forum oversees and pays for the institute, including tuition, fees, books and housing. To be eligible, students must have finished at least one year of college. Students must provide transportation and cannot use alcohol, illegal drugs or other intoxicants. Violators will be dismissed.

Instructions and application forms are available from Janine Harris at jharris@... or 677-5424.
