Mendocino County couple's Covelo ranch at center of federal court suit

Kathy and Gary McKay bought 360 acres in the far reaches of Mendocino
County's remote Round Valley five years ago, expecting a peaceful
life raising cattle on the stream- and waterfall-studded ranch.

Instead, they're locked in battle with the Round Valley Indian tribes
over fishing and access rights to their property.

Tribal members say they have a right to cross the McKay ranch and
fish in its streams. The McKays say they don't. They've installed
locked gates and have filed criminal complaints against an armed
tribal member they found spear-fishing on one of their four year-
      round streams.
