Group Description

Clayworks Pottery Guild was started in the 70's by a handful of potters who needed some comradery and moral support. Today Clayworks has over 80 members from all over the Triangle area. We continue to meet for moral support but we do much more than that. Every month members get together (locations vary- studios, homes and galleries) for lectures, discussions, hands-on learning or slide shows.
Some of our recent meetings have included:

·a demonstration of Mata Ortez style pottery by area potter Coy Quakenbush and a chance to make our own brushes for slip decoration

·a wonderful lecture by Green Tara Gallery owner Donna Soto on how galleries work and how best to approach them to sell your work

·a demonstration by Clayworks member Deb Harris on making cane handles for teapots and a chance to try one ourselves

·a sample class on improving and expanding creativity by Clayworks member Zoie Holzknecht

·a spectacular 50 year overview of glaze trials by Clayworks member Dorothy Davis

Clayworks currently organizes 3 pottery sales for members each year; two holiday sales around December (one at Duke North Hospital) and a spring sale in May.

Clayworks members include professional potters, weekend potters, art students and those who just love ceramics.
