      to anyone past ten, but there's still a ten year old in me somewhere.

      Sadly, THE RETURN OF THE TWELVES in several places comments on the
      differences between boys and girls... and they're just what we've always
      been
      told they were. Not to the discredit of girls, though, Jane is a valued
      contributor to Max's adventure (when he decides to share it with her).

      But I guess that still makes this book beyond the pale (not to mention the
      Young Men getting "inebriated").

      Actually, it has a fine sensitivity to the point of independence, even of
      nine-year-old boys and of toys come-to-life. In fact it's a fine book, as
      DavidL said.
