The Cereal Convention isn't really that contrived-- it's more a
matter of poetic justice that all these sadistic losers are present
at a turning point for the force that inspired them in the first place.
(Avoiding spoilers for those who haven't read the Doll's House
storyline yet.) When mythic elements arrive on the scene, mythic
timing is not out of place-- for instance, anyone mistaking "The
Fifth Element" for an action film will find the timing
horribly implausible and the characters rather sketchy, but as a
simple fairy tale in a science fiction setting it's just plain fun.
