Don't do yourself out of several good reads because of literary litmus
tests. Several other people have recommended that you not start with A
Civil Campaign, if you shoose to have another look; I agree. You might
even start with the first book in the series, _Shards of Honor_, which
takes place before Mile is even born. The books are funny, lively and
thoughtful, a rare combination
