Carroll's current nomination pits him against friend and fan Neil
Gaiman who says, "Jonathan Carroll is one of the special ones, one of
the few. He paints the world he sees. He opens a window you did not
know was there and invites you to look through it. He gives you his
eyes to see with, and he gives you the world all fresh and honest and
      new."

This tour, his first in the United States in more than half a decade,
is in support of his new novel, White Apples (Tor Hardcover, October
2002, $24.95). WHITE APPLES is a love story, an unconventional love
story told through Carroll's unique, recognizable voice. Vincent
Ettrich is a top advertising executive who prides himself on his
      ability to make the sale. He's a smooth-talker, a philanderer- a
loveable cool guy. He also seems to be dead. Vincent doesn't remember
being sick, his stay in the hospital or dying - but it happened. Now
he's back, summoned by his one true love, Isabelle, and their unborn
child, Anjo. Anjo is special and will play a role in saving the
cosmic mosaic that is the universe. But in order to achieve this Anjo
needs his father to teach him the secrets that he learned during his
time in the afterlife. Meanwhile, Vincent is having a hard time
believing that he's been returned from the dead and an even harder
time remembering what he saw on the other side. Will he be able to
put the pieces together and pass the information to Anjo before its
      too late?

WHITE APPLES is a tale of self-discovery. Vincent must look at his
life and decide what's really important to him in order to do what
Isabelle and Anjo, and indeed the entire universe, need him to do.
This surrealistic journey will take him around the globe as well as
      through time and space.

Jonathan Carroll's fiction runs a middle ground between Science
Fiction, Fantasy, Mainstream and Horror combining the best elements
of all of these genres while taking them far beyond in new and
original directions. Known for unusual characters and fantastical
events, Carroll's work has garnered high praise from around the world
with the Washington Post declaring,"I envy anyone who has yet to
enjoy the sexy, eerie and addictive novels of Jonathan Carroll. They
are delicious treats- with devilish tricks inside them."
