The Fantastic in Popular Culture and Visual Arts Division of the
International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts is seeking
submissions for the 24th Annual International Conference on the Fantastic in
The focus of ICFA 24 is on the darker side of the fantastic, on the strange
and horrific elements of myths, legends, and fairy tales that creep into
science fiction and fantasy. However, proposals on any aspect of the
fantastic in popular culture--comics/graphic novels, visual arts,
architecture (especially as it relates to the gothic), photography, gaming,
fan fiction and culture, music, performance art, and computer-based art
(e.g., digital imagery, hypertext, and hypermedia)--are welcome.
The deadline for submission of individual proposals, paper sessions, or
panel discussions is 15 October 2002. Proposals should include a 500-word
abstract and appropriate bibliography indicating the project's scholarly or
theoretical context. Be sure to include current/working contact information
(snailmail AND email address at least).
