Readers of this list might be interested to know that the Peter Jackson
"Fellowship of the Ring" film has won the Hugo Award, given by the World
Science Fiction Convention, for Best Dramatic Presentation (in the
science fiction and fantasy fields) of 2001. Sean Astin, who played Sam
      Gamgee, accepted in person.

The Best Novel was "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman.

Neither of the two volumes on Tolkien nominated (Shippey's "J.R.R.
Tolkien Author of the Century" and Karen Haber's "Meditations on
Middle-earth") won the Best Related Book Award, which went to a Chesley
      Bonestell art book.

The full list of awards should be up soon at www.conjose.org.
