I've found Kristin Thompson's website a good source for keeping up with stuff; she brings together news from all over. In her post* regarding a news story about the Estate's settling their claim against the studios for $100,000,000 (one hundred million dollars), she expresses skepticism that the amount was that low. So take that $100 million (US) as a lowball figure of the Estate's cut, not counting whatever they'd actually been paid on time when it was due (this $100 million+ was for what was in arrears and took a protracted suit to pry out of 'Hollywood Accounting').And, what amazes me the most, is that this represents only about 1% of what Kristin estimates the total gross of the films and their subsidiary products to have been; in her book (THE FRODO FRANCHISE) she estimated that at $10,000,000,000 (ten billion dollars). So, what I'd call a substantial sum.So, I conclude the cease-and-desist re MIIRKWOOD isn't about the money.--John R.*http://www.kristinthompson.net/blog/?cat=26On Feb 22, 2011, at 12:20 PM, WendellWag@... wrote:

Such a thing has been spoken of since Peter Jackson was a sunspot on the far horizon.MikeWhoops! That was meant to be a private message. Sorry about that."Let's hope Tolkien's Beowulf will follow."Dreamer! If there is one action of the Tolkien Estate that I really don't understand, it is blocking Drout's work on this. But have you seen any indication that they have reversed course?Doug
