- i have the new catalog from Daedalus Books, who are having their Big Sale -
their catalog always makes the books that didn't sell sound far more
interesting than the books that did.

I was interested by this notice:
THE PATIENT STONE: A Persian Love Story.
Theatrical storyteller Margaret Wolfson re-tells an ancient Persian myth for
readers 8 to 11, using a traditional Eastern narrative form rich with
symbolism. A mysterious voice at the village well tells the kind and poetic Fatima
that she will soon die. Seeking help, Fatima discovers a beautiful walled garden
and a sleeping prince, who can only be awakened through the utmost patience
and dedication. Just before her mission is done, Fatima is tricked by a robber
girl, who takes Fatima's place beside the prince. It is the prince who finds
the Patient Stone, and the truth that sets Fatima free. Juan Caneba Clavero's
provides luxuriously detailed illustrations and borders.
Now, I don't know this story, but isn't this the same motif as the Grimm
Brothers' THE GOOSE GIRL?
