      A friend in England has sent a cutting from the _New Zealand News UK_ of
      21 July. It notes that the producers of the _Lord of the Rings_ film had
      got in touch with Janette and Ross Campbell, owners of a 2000 kg (about
      4400 lbs.) bull named Big Red, who lives in a nature park in New Zealand,
      and asked that he be included in the film. The bull's immense size makes
      transporting him difficult, so the filmmakers will go to him. The article
      doesn't say what the bull will do in the film -- one is tempted to say, of
      a two-ton bull, "anything he likes", although its owners say that he's
      really "a big softy". Of course there is no bull in Tolkien's book. I
      wonder if he will be an addition to Farmer Maggot's livestock? The photo
      that accompanies the newspaper article makes it clear that any actor
      standing next to this remarkably large bull will appear hobbit-sized in
