      > Dear Friend,
      >
      > The C.S. Lewis Foundation is eagerly making preparations for its second C.S. Lewis Summer Conference, to be held at the University of San Diego, June 24-27, 2004. This gathering is one of several educational experiences the Foundation offers by way of Conferences and Retreats in addition to our Summer Institutes, and Faculty Forums. It is an example of our commitment to serve a growing community of Christians searching for relevant, lively learning opportunities and creative cultural encounters. We believe that our theme for this year, "The Fantastic Worlds of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien," embodies the Foundation's rich tradition of sound intellectual stimulation combined with imaginative study.
      >
      > Explore the fantastic worlds of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien - where talking animals, dwarves, magic rings, and wardrobes take us on imaginative adventures that probe deeply into the character and meaning of the seeming "realities" of our world. We invite you to enter into this rare opportunity to meet with seekers and Christians of all traditions for a feast of engaging lectures, small group discussions, artistic performances, and worship - all on the beautiful campus of the University of San Diego.
      >
      > Enjoy a program of lectures and seminars by renowned Lewis and Tolkien scholars - Peter Kreeft, Jerry Root, Joseph Pearce, and Paul Ford, joined by poet Luci Shaw, and presenters, Nigel Goodwin and Ben Patterson. These speakers will be complemented by performing artists, Tony Lawton, Annie Herring, and Mark Jennings, with special appearances by Lamb's Players Theatre and Fernando Ortega.
      >
      > Upon reading Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Lewis exclaimed, "It has done things to us.... We are not quite the same men." Our prayer is that this event will make possible similar transformations in the hearts and minds of all who come.
