Report from the UN which came out in the last two days.
As many know Israel has had Gaza under siege for more two years. Access to food, clean water, access to medical attention, and rebuilding supplies has been denied to the Palestinian population in Gaza of more than 1 million people. 50% of the population are children. This report highlights the impact of the siege on children's ability to learn.
Of interest to those with a medical background or those have an ability to have empathy for children, perhaps because they have children themselves, the deliberate starvation of the population has led to the following:
20% of children are iodine deficient
61.6% of children between 9-12 months are anemic (likely do to a lack of iron)
29% of pregnant women are also anemic (which will affect the mental development of their children)
22% of children are deficient in Vitamin A
All of this will cause a stunting the mental development of children which would not have occurred in the absence of Israel's deliberate policies. http://ochaonline2.un.org/Default.aspx?alias=ochaonline2.un.org/oPt
