Group Description

This group is for the discussion of all technical topics related to the Microsoft Reader for ebooks, with an emphasis on publishing and software development issues.

A partial list of allowable discussion topics include:

1) The creation and publishing of works in LIT format. This includes, among other topics, OEBPS, HTML, CSS, XML, document conversion, LIT compilers, DocBook, TEI, etc.

2) End-user issues, such as the installation of Microsoft Reader (both Desktop and PocketPC versions), reading, and accessibility.

3) Software development using Microsoft's Reader Content SDK (see http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/sdk.asp ).

4) Digital Rights Management (DRM) and server/distribution issues.

Types of messages NOT ALLOWED on MS_Reader include:

1) Clearly off-topic messages; topically-empty "one-liner" replies; those which are disrespectful or disruptive.

2) Blatantly hyped-up commercial messages. Commercially-oriented messages are allowed if they are clearly on-topic (of definite interest to the MS_Reader technical community) and written in a factual and objective manner. It is recommended to first clear a commercially-oriented message with the Group Administrator.

3) Announcements of ebook titles. This group is for the *technical* discussion of producing and distributing LIT files, not for the announcement of LIT-formatted titles except in the rare case when such title is of direct interest to the MS_Reader community.

4) Messages of an administrative or procedural nature. Direct all administrative/procedural comments in private to the Group Administrator.

This group is independent and unmoderated. MS_Reader is not affiliated with, nor endorsed by, the Microsoft Corporation (which holds all the respective trademarks used here.)

The current Group Administrator is Jon A. Morgan (jon@babble-club.net), who reserves the right to take whatever action is deemed necessary to maintain the integrity and smooth-operation of MS_Reader.
