It's one of the most notorious and desirable roles in cinema, and it looks like King Kong star Naomi Watts is hot on the trail to become the next Bond girl.
Watts has been wowing blockbusting crowds across the world, with a little help from a giant ape, and has apparently impressed producers of the James Bond films, who are looking to find a female foil to go up against Daniel Craig in his inaugural outing as the dapper secret agent.
Convincing as a strong yet vulnerable heroine playing Ann Darrow in Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson's re-imagining of the Kong classic, Watts would be required to take on a slyer, more steely role if she accepted a part in Casino Royale.
Producers have apparently already made phone calls to Watts' representatives, urging her to take on the role of Russian vixen Vesper Lynd, Bond's female love-nemesis for the film.
However, sources close to the Australian actress claim she might turn down the role for fear of type-casting herself.
Having said this, other Bond girl actresses haven't experienced such problems see Halle Berry, Teri Hatcher and Honor Blackman.
The hotly sought after part has reportedly already been turned down by a number of Hollywood A-listers, including Oscar-winner Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie.
Jolie clearly has no qualms about type-casting, after rumours emerged that she would be playing Lara Croft in a third Tomb Raider film. From
