The animal rights movement has come to Mississippi. It is up to each of us to defend our right to own pets. No one is going to do it for us. It is time for each animal owner and pet lover in our state to educate themselves as to the differences between animal rights and animal welfare and to unite in order to fight those who want to take away our rights. Mississippi Pet Law will discuss the various animal issues legislation as introduced so that we can make informed decisions as to whether a particular law will protect our animals or put them even more at risk. We will learn how to fight those laws which take away our rights to own pets, choose the breed(s)we want to own, own as many as we choose, and the right to participate in lawful activities. Topics will include state and local legislation, zoning, breed bans, breeder registration and licensing, breeding restrictions, mandatory spay and neuter, rescuer licensing and restrictions, etc. Members will share constructive ideas, resources, and work to introduce good legislation to protect our pets but leave us with our own rights intact. We will discuss animal rights issues in order to educate, but this will not be the place to debate them. Differences of opinion will be allowed and encouraged, but flaming and personal attacks will not be tolerated. Trolls will be removed without notice. Messages will be moderated in order to keep us on topic.
