      187 leaves (42 blank), 57mm. by 41mm., text complete, collation: i-x8, xi2, xii-xx8, xxi3 [of 8, iii to vi cancelled], xxii-xxiv8, xv6, horizontal catchwords in centre of lower margins, 11 lines, written-space 31mm. by 25mm., written in a very small rounded Gothic textura in dark brown ink, rubrics in red, alternating red and blue one- and two-line initials throughout, TWELVE HISTORIATED INITIALS (4 to 5 lines high) with partial borders of penwork and bezants, HALF-PAGE MINIATURE WITH FULL BORDER (fol.1r) of flowers, gilded bezants and penwork, some signs of use, a prayer to Christ added at the end in a in a very fine sloping italic hand (fol.153r), some rubbing and wear, staining and darkening of edges and end leaves, fol.1r rather damaged and occasional flaking of initials, generally sound with good margins, FINE RENAISSANCE SILVER-GILT FILIGREE BINDING, probably Venetian c.1500, with very elaborate scrollwork patterns in minute wires, dots and tiny springs arranged around central panel of gilt tracery pierced to pink metallic ground underneath, 5 ornamental bosses on each cover with radiating sun and 'S' patterns in enamel, spine with broad panel of floral tracery designs, clasp with pierced roundel of the Crucifixion with the Virgin and St. John on either side, binding slightly worn, pastedowns renewed, lower hinges repaired, later seventeenth- or early-eighteenth century fitted box of blind-stamped brown morocco lined with soft red leather, metal clasp and catch
