  • Regardless of the reputation of Defense Distributed, what they are selling is essentially a milling machine (albeit a cheap one). The carriers determining on their own that this is a problem because it could let people make arms (which is legal) is itself the problem. They're not refusing to carry it because it's crap, if they did that they wouldn't have much to ship anymore. On...

  • UPS and FedEx are saying they won't transport a milling machine designed for making firearm parts because “This device is capable of manufacturing firearms, and potentially by private individuals,” FedEx spokesperson Scott Fiedler wrote in a statement, according to Wired. So, are they taking the stance that anything that can make a firearm is "illegal" for an individual to...

  • A vendor from the 3D printing world just signed a deal to offer small batches of quality anodizing dye, quite handy for people who don't want to buy full drums. He's still getting the web site set up for orders but said anyone who's interested can contact him directly and he'll take pre-orders to make sure he gets the right colors in to start off. e-mail: anodize@^$1 web: http...

  • I just use the PVC sheeting that's intended for lining showers. Cheap, durable, flexible, cheap. Got it at Home Depot and used the left over for a cover on my lathe. • I had a hard time finding the stuff myself and then finding someone who would sell me small panels. There's the shops that will only sell full 4' x 8' sheets, shops that claimed to sell it but couldn't actually come up with any info on it (took a week to get me a price), and the shops that will only sell pre-engraved. Then I found Delvies. :) On 02/09/2015 08:10 PM, Andy M trumpy81...

  • Finished front panel. There's still some swarf on it, but that's the general look. Just about finished with the panels, stopped for a drink. Customer is bugging me for where his things are. Along with a couple of others. Why does everyone have to order stuff at the same time? Today got a call warning me that CBS needs 6 more of our lighting controllers...that are out of stock. Argh...

  • After an update to TuboCAD the CAM plugin started doing strange things (they haven't really updated the plugin for a long time, just the main program). After appropriate pounding of head on keyboard, it occurred to me that the CAM software for the new controller board I have for the mill has an "import from DXF" command, I wonder... Sure enough, it can import the DXF, automagically...
