  • Not familiar with the BX288 but if the column is the same as most import mill drills, removing the column cap will allow the rack to come off with the head. Good luck, I hate moving these things.. • Nice write up Dan, now I don't feel nearly so anal about my mods :-) I still need to secure the head such that I can raise and lower it and not lose alignment (the joy of the round column. Any thoughts on that one would be appreciated. Bob From: "'casy_ch@^$1' casy_ch@^$2 [MILL_DRILL]" To: MILL_DRILL@^$3 Sent: Saturday, December 3, 2016 2:14 PM Subject: Re: [MILL_DRILL] Mill Mod...

  • Thought I would load a few pictures of the modification I just completed on my RF 40 clone HF Mill/Drill. My machine works very well machining in th x-y planes and is very stable and accurate. I can't say the same about z during plunge milling or boring operations due to the weight of the ram combined with the backlash in the rack. Though the addition of the z axis DRO aides...

  • 4 bolts and the motor lifts off the top of the gear box. The motor shaft has a keyway to interface it to the gear train. Be careful not to drop the key into the box. Remove the switch from the gearbox and keep all electrics with the motor. Sent from my iPhone On Sep 23, 2016, at 1:30 PM, franksweeny41@^$1 [MILL_DRILL] < MILL_DRILL@^$2 > wrote: Gear drive.

  • Gear Drive or belt drive? I have removed the motor on my HF ZAY 7032g gear drive. Sent from my iPhone On Sep 23, 2016, at 12:34 PM, franksweeny41@^$1 [MILL_DRILL] < MILL_DRILL@^$2 > wrote: Has anyone taking the motor off one of these and could explain how they did it?

  • I think you're on the right track. I have a harbor freight RF45 gear head mill. It is labeled ZAY7032G and runs a 110 volt motor with no option to run off 220. It would trip the breaker on start up about half the time at lower speeds and would not start at all in the higher speeds. Sometimes it would start to run in high gear but couldn't make the switch to the run cap and would...

  • I use a Bridgeport #2 (which I believe is 3 inch) on my RF45. It works great and appears to be about the right size for the machine. Due to the inertia tool, I do take the backlash out of the geartrain on startup to protect the gears.
