The Honors English 8th grade teacher wants a reading list for her
students that lists books (in her words) with literary merit.

Is there a list of classic books for students going into high school?
I found AP lists and PreAP lists for the college bound but what about
      for the high school bound?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I really hope that this 8th grade teacher doesn't mistake high school classics for 8th grade "classics."  Books with great literary quality for 8th graders include SPEAK, THE WEDNESDAY WARS, THE LAND, THE MISFITS, THE LAST BOOK IN THE UNIVERSE, GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER,and teach one of the great verse novels to better understand and appreciate poetry.
