  • The Dallas brand timekeeper, is a time of day clock IC with some small RAM, and packaged with a battery to sustain both clock and RAM for years. "Missing pins" is *normal*, that's how it was manufactured, check the appropriate data sheets. You can cut into the package with caution, and wire in a new battery (and disconnect the old of course). The SGI collectors among others have...

  • orion etc. asked: 1,2. (I'd be really surprised if I could find this) - A 48 pin dip MALE IDC header, to basically connect a ribbon cable to a 48 pin male dip plug that would fit into the appropriate 48 pin CPU socket (for a Z8000). [Ditto, 40 pin version] - It may be simpler to build a small board with the 40 or 48 pin DIP plug (or pair of SIP plugs) that is wired to a 40/48/50...

  • Just a reminder to some, that I lived about 12 miles from Claude and worked with him many times in his last years. I"ve been in touch with Claude Kagan's estate executor from time to time. I know of no plans of theirs, regarding sam76.com. I've seen almost no updates on the resistors.org Web site. Meanwhile, I've updated my memorial page to Claude Kagan and sam76 when information...

  • Jeff, I live in NJ near Trenton so Newtown PA is a short drive for me. And I do PROM programming so this may be useful to me. Why don't you contact me care of my "retrotechnology.com" Web site and we'll work out a meeting or shipping if that's cheaper than driving around? • I mostly agree with Mike - generally, leave the vintage computer as you obtained it. At least to start. Then figure out why it is that way. *Then* make a decision about what to about that configuration. There's no rule about this - the actual rule is "know what your predecessors did, and why". And by extension, know what your plans are, and why. Part of my interest in vintage...

My interests precede the 1990's, and are more technical. Also I think it's too early to compare 2000-decade events to previous events. But I have a comment or two otherwise about...

  • If you are still counting, I'll be there Saturday morning/noonish to beat the snow/rain. As I posted earlier I have hotel reservations so I'll leave Sunday after the storm. "most American beer....got very little alcohol.." The River Horse brews are typically several to 10% alcohol. A glance at Wikipedia suggests that's more than typical. Herb Johnson

  • Evan reminded me the event is through Saturday night; thanks. Also, today (Monday) I reserved a motel room south of Infoage. There's a chance of showers and snow during the event, another reason not to drive to/from Trenton that evening. I'll still bring a cot if someone will need an overnight (and split the cost). Also, I stopped at our local brewery River Horse, and bought a few...
