Re: PLEASE READ --- RE: Update -- RE: [midatlanticretro] A minor but important event for us
- Dang - if someone can pick me up in Winston Salem, NC, and drop me back off afterwards - I have almost every system from the Atari 2600 all the way to the present (except for the Nintendo DS and the 360). Segas, Ataris, Vectrex, Colecos, Intellivision - I could bring them all along with about 1,000 games!!! :-) Any takers on transportation?!?! ;-)))--Timster------- Original Message -----From: Evan KoblentzSent: Thursday, June 29, 2006 5:49 AMSubject: PLEASE READ --- RE: Update -- RE: [midatlanticretro] A minor but important event for usDarn it, nobody has committed to this event yet. I went and got myself into a jam, so I really need people to help with this -- please! We can do this either Saturday or Monday, in both cases starting at about 5pm. We need three or four people to each bring a different vintage videogame system. I have the 2600, but you guys must have others... right!? (We have a Magnavox box in the storage room, but I never looked * inside * the box to see what's there or if it works.)Again, I really got myself/us up a creek here without a paddle. I committed us to this without realizing how soon it was coming up. So help me MARCHians! (Plus it will be fun.)

Subject: Update -- RE: [midatlanticretro] A minor but important event for usI heard back from the woman organizing this project. She has these dates open for us to entertain and teach the kids: June 28 (tomorrow), and July 1, 2, 3, and 5 (Sat., Sun., Mon., Wed.) -- they kids are doing work at all day, they eat dinner at about 5:30, and then there's free in the evenings. She emphasized that of all the entertainment options, the kids were by far most excited about MARCH! They'd like a tour of our collections in addition to a couple hours of playing vintage videogames.Since most of us live some distance away, I suggest we do this either July 1st or 3rd (since everyone's off from work the following days.) If we pick the 1st, then we can do plenty of other things at InfoAge in the daytime for ourselves -- for example we can start organizing static collections in the library building (the hallway where our real museum will be) in advance of some bigger InfoAge events this fall. Or we could even start doing some technical work on the computers. So, who's available this Saturday to work and entertain/teach high school kids? Who can bring appropriate systems for them to play? This is obviously urgent and timely, so please reply ASAP.- Evan

There are a bunch of high school kids (I think about a dozen) visiting
InfoAge from June 25 - July 8 and staying at the commander's cottage
on-site. These are kids who all volunteered and even paid money for the
right to work at InfoAge as a community service project. At the last board
meeting, Fred asked all the groups to help entertain the kids, since they
won't have TV or the web or anything. So I volunteered MARCH to host a
vintage videogame night (date to be determined.)
I have a 2600; what other systems can we get together? Of course these can
be computer games, not just videogames.
The bigger (and older) the variety, the better!
We'll also need people to bring monitors/TVs, requisite power cords,
joysticks, software, etc.
Also please tell me which evenings you're free and meanwhile I'll check in
with the volunteer organizer from the group running their program via Fred.
- Might be switched to Thursday. I'll know more by tomorrow night. Sorry for
all the confusion.
