            hold the coil near to the floppy. Ring the bell a few times. Or, to make it
            easier, rip the transformer out, or get a new one from home depot or lowes

                I've used it to unformat bad 3 1/2 inch disks so they will reformat
                cleanly with MS-DOS/Win3.x/Win9.x

                They also render the floppies unreadable for most os's. The sector
                headers get pretty scrambled. Don't think it's good enough for the NSA
                but it lets me reuse the media cleanly.

                The trick is moving the data disk across the eraser in different
                directions after the magnetic field is set up.

                About 2 or 3 slow passes and you're good to go
