- Regarding the BASIC Challenge on
What platform is the BASIC challenge to be written? I suggest we pick a
version of BASIC that matches existing BASIC manuals we already have on
hand at MARCH that people can use. There has to be a specific BASIC
otherwise the code will not work. The BASIC the largest number of persons
will know is Microsoft BASIC, Tandy BASIC, or Commodore BASIC. You can't
mix these together however, we have to pick one. It would be great if we
could do a time-sharing BASIC, but that's a project.
It may be easier to have a working system set up and running that people
can save their code to. Someone will have to type in the code at the end,
and there will be not time or as many people around to see the final
product. It could take hours to debug code, if even possible, written by
random people. By saving the code and running it in real time people can
test the line of code they entered, and delete/correct it if it causes a
syntax error. Might as well add a line that works. Otherwise it'll be
impossible to debug.
