I noticed that the Xerox 820 supports SSDD and DSDD drives. I say all 3 are possible even some are HH drives =Dan [ = http://www2.applegate.org/~ragooman/ ] B

The unit I cleaned last night:
        http://vintagecomputer.net/browse_thread.cfm?id=226
        ..has Shugart 801's.

When I bought this drive on Ebay, I thought I was getting a twin 5 1/4"
drive, and it was too late to retract my bid so I was stuck with them.
Jeff Jonas gave me a bunch of 5 1/4" disks to archive on the Xerox 820
and that is why I got the drive. Anyway, as is my procedure I took
apart the enclosure upon receipt and cleaned it. Assuming they work,
worst case is now I have two spare 801's for my Lobo twin 8"

Now that I have started investigating the situation, I am thinking that
SA400's with the proper cable will work for the Xerox 5 1/4" disks,
there's nothing special about the Xerox drives. I should have
something someplace to interface. I also have to do more research. I
am just getting started with this project.

I have added a number of new posts to vintagecomputer.net in the blog
section, fyi. Check out the Heathkit EC-1
