      Welcome to the group!

      The fault with your original board sounds a lot like a memory failure and is most likely fixable. Your culprit is probably one of the 4164's. Did you try to run the self test (hold down the Apple keys when turning on the power)?

      You're welcome to bring it to the next workshop day (don't know when that will be, we just had one a few weeks ago), and I would be happy to help you fix it.
