thermal generators usually present a really big risk, not so much
because of the radioactivity of the plutonium used in most of them,
but because of plutonium's toxicity. Plutonium is =so= toxic, that
just a few ounces of the stuff, properly "distributed", is enough to
kill every human on the planet. You thought arsenic was bad.... this
stuff is =really= bad.
Plutonium RTGs are often used to power unattended remote lighthouses,
and every now and then some doofbat will steal one, hoping to make a
home-grown nuke. No good... it's the wrong isotope for weapons. But,
still plenty radioactive enough to ruin your day.
