Almost here! 2/25 - Seven A Cappella Groups Compete at the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweeps - the Birchmere
- You've got less than two weeks to wait! On Saturday February 25, the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweeps A Cappella Festival returns to the Birchmere. Fabulous groups, of many different genres will be competing. 2011 National Champions - Da Capo - will be hosting.
When: Saturday February 25, Doors open at 5, show starts at 7:30
Where: The Birchmere, Alexandria, VA, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22305.
Competing this year will be 7 groups comprised of musicians from all walks of life - music teachers, jazz singers, government workers, farmer, church musicians, scientists and engineers, New Yorkers, college A Cappella alums, and a former Miss Maryland - all with a passion for singing. The groups competing this year are:
Epic - Four fun-loving young ladies with backgrounds ranging from barbershop, jazz and opera, who love harmony. They are members of Harmony, Inc, an international organization of women barbershop harmony singers;
Faithful - A composite of richly talented musicians coming together from Richmond and DC, from diverse churches and spiritual persuasions. They sing gospel music with a jazz influence;
Glorious - Together since 1997, this tight knit and polished group combines tried and true spirituals with an upbeat tempo for a memorable listening experience;GQ - Formed in the summer of 2011, this group brings together jazz, pop, barbershop and musical theater backgrounds to bring some new repertoire to the A Cappella scene;
Keystone - Based in southeastern Pennsylvania, this group of A Cappella veterans strives to present innovative, original arrangements of pop and rock tunes both familiar and obscure;
Loose Interpretations - An all female contemporary A Cappella group based in New York City, they perform their original arrangements of 80's pop, Beatles, country, and rock; and
TBD - A contemporary group formed from members of Alexandria's award winning barbershop chorus, The Harmonizers. As TBD they perform a wide array of genres from traditional A Cappella standards to current radio hits.
Hosting the event this year will be the 2011 National Champions, Da Capo, who will also be giving a showcase performance.
