** Aurora Watch In Effect **

There's little in the way of flares or sunspots to report. In fact,
only two tiny sunspot regions are visible. That hasn't stopped things
from being interesting, however. Early this morning, the earth was
hit by a high speed solar wind stream coming from a coronal hole. G-3
geomagnetic storm conditions were briefly observed, and aurora were
spotted in Canada. Although the solar wind speed has now dropped to
under 500 km/sec, an aurora watch remains in effect, and look for
geomagnetic storm conditions to occur during the next 24 hours.

The currrent solar and geomagnetic conditions are :

      NOAA sunspot number : 19
      SFI : 78
      A index : 35
      K index : 4

      Solar wind speed : 482.3 km/sec
      Solar wind density : 3.7 protons/cc
Solar wind pressure : 2.1 nPa

      IMF : 5.9 nT
IMF Orientation : 2.7 nT North

      GOES-12 Background X-ray Flux level : A5

Conditions for the last 24 hours :
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been strong. Geomagnetic
storms reaching the G3 level occurred.

Forecast for the next 24 hours :
Space weather for the next 24 hours is expected to be minor.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are expected.

      Solar activity forecast :
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels.

      Geomagnetic activity forecast :
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at unsettled to minor storm
levels. Isolated major storm conditions may be possible during the
period due to the recurrent high speed coronal hole stream.

Recent significant solar flare activity :
      None
