All is quiet this evening as the Earth exits the latest high speed
solar wind stream encounter, and there's no significant flare activity
to report. The latest round of activity did create some impressive
aurora displays in Canada and Alaska, as can be seen here :
      http://science.nasa.gov/spaceweather/aurora/gallery_01aug03.html .
This summer has seen quite a few occurrances of aurora, which is
unusual. The norm is for the best aurora to be seen around the spring
and fall equinox time periods, although nobody is certain exactly why
that is. The lull in activity is expected to last another couple of
days, before another coronal hole enocunter is expected. Look for the
solar wind speeds to start picking up along about Wednesday.

The current solar and geomagnetic conditions are :

      NOAA sunspotr number : 112
      SFI : 131
      A index : 12
      K index : 2

      Solar wind speed : 527.3 km/sec
      Solar wind density : 2.6 protons/cc
Solar wind pressure : 1.0 nPa

      IMF : 5.8 nT
IMF Orientation : 0.6 nT South

Conditions for the last 24 hours :
Solar activity is expected to continue at low levels. C-class flares
are possible from Regions 424, 425, and 431.

Forecast for the next 24 hours :
No space weather storms are expected for the next 24 hours.

      Solar activity forecast :
Solar activity is expected to continue at low levels. C-class flares
are possible from Regions 424, 425, and 431.

      Geomagnetic activity forecast :
The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet to active on day
one. Another coronal hole high speed stream is expected to impact the
geomagnetic field on days two and three. Expect unsettled to minor
storm levels both days with isolated major storm periods on day three.

Recent significant solar flare activity :
      None
