Rothko is pretty great. I think it's easier to understand Rothko when
you live in a land of big sky and horizon. But the paintings at the
Menil are something else, entirely. People go and sit for hours,
waiting for the daylight to change so that the paintings will change,
revealing very subtle color shifts within the layers of paint. I
think you have to be in the right mood for that... otherwise, it's
just 3 big boring purple paintings. :)
