18784RE: Words of Wisdom by Swami Satchidananda
- Feb 19, 2014I like this quote very much. The "power of positive thinking" has been derided since about the time of Freud, likely because "positive psychology" turned out to be not as effective at the cure of serious psychological problems (like "hysteria") as other methods. But, in my view, the positive effects of religion are precisely those bestowed by positive thinking, without the need for bronze age mythology, or, indeed, any gods at all.
One regret I have is that when I wrote my book on meditation, http://www.amazon.com/Perennial-Solution-Center-Walter-Horn/dp/1591095697 I hadn't heard about (or thought of myself) the "tetris effect" on happiness.
I think it would have been a better book.
