Hello friends, perhaps we can engage in a dialog regarding the Society for
Meditation and Meditation Research (SMMR)? If you are interested in such a
discussion, then please make your comments to this thread.

Subject: SMMR Society for Meditation and Meditation Research

Dear friends, by chance I came across this discussion which took place
about one and a half yera ago. I was wondering about Your speculations
concerning TM, SMMR and my research. It is interesting, how things
look from afar and how these speculations are biased by the
      "anti-TMO-suspicion".

The easiest way would have been to contact one of us - Uli Ott, Harald
Piron, or myself instead of leading a discussion in thin air without
      gathering the facts first.

As I do not know, if any of the questions are still vaild, I shall
answer in short. Otherwise I would be glad to send You some of the
discussed material (the MEDEQ questionnaire and an article about it's
construction, both in English, and an article of mine about
      effortlessness of meditation).

In fact, I left the movement about 20 years ago but I didn't stop
doing research on TM and on body-psychotherapy, working in my own
psychotherapeutic practice as psychotherapist. I initiated about more
than 1000 patients into TM. I was excluded from the TMO twenty years
ago and "they do not like my way of independent researching and
initiating into TM". My colleagues in SMMR: Dr. Piron is a practicing
tibetan buddhist, Dr. Ott is Yoga-teacher. The sentiment in SMMR is
generally against TM (research and technique and MMY) because of its
negative and questionnable publicity. As scientist, i am sitting
"between all chairs" - TMO rejects me because of my heresy and
scientific colleagues are subject to the same contra-TM-bias as I am
      gathering from Your discussion.

So, if this comes not too late and if there is still interest in the
articles stated above, please let me know and I will be happy to send
      copies to You by mail.

Some of the articles of JMMR can be downloaded now (the
effortless-article, too) from the SMMR website.

      best wishes to You all
      Theo Fehr
