      just an fyi, typically you use 5/4” boards for decking.  they are pine and they last for years.  if you go on the cheap you use 1” pine (which is actually ¾”) and that too will hold up for years.  1 ½” …. you can park a car on.  if its square 1 ½” two cars.  for a chair it should be plenty plenty strong even if the person sitting on it is……  ummmm robust.
