      There is also a material called baltic birch plywood
      that is much sturdier than regular or marine grade
      plywood, but is more expensive. It is nice becasue it
      doesn't have the internal voids that most plywood has.

      It may be difficult to use, though, if you are wanting
      to make a curved shield.
