    It looks to me like they are half lap joints at the intersection of the X s. The right arm/left leg pair have their opening facing out, with the left arm/right

      It looks to me like they are half lap joints at the intersection of the X’s. The right arm/left leg pair have their opening facing out, with the left arm/right leg facing in. This would provide a solid joint that would not come apart.
