Thank you for founding this club. This is a man
everyone should learn about. No matter the controversy
surrounding him, he was instrumental in practically giving
life and inspiration to the modern democratic ideals
we all admire and enjoy.

P.S. By the way, the
person under whose name I'm writing has a lot of
artistic background and would like to give you a hand with
the colors and background of this club.

P.P.S.
I read in several places that Robespierre's family
was of Irish origin. Does anyone know more about
this?

about this:
As you know, Robespierre had a brother
named Augustin, who was also a member of the "Comite de
Salut Public". In your opinion, was he just trying to
build his reputation on his brother's account or did he
really stand up for what he believed in?
Thanks.
I think he really stood up for what he believed:
in fact when the Assembley (the Convention) decided
to put Robespierre, Saint-Just, Couthon under arrest

but he preferred to follow his ideals!

Hello! I'm sorry I haven't posted lately. Since
2001 is almost over, I wish you all a Happy New
Year!
I just read something that bothered me a lot. In
his book, "Le Passe d'une Illusion", French historian
Francois Furet (a specialist in the French Revolution)
compares the execution of the partisans of Danton and
Hebert to the way Stalin eliminated his opponents.
Personally, I believe that comparing Robespierre to Stalin is
truly unfair. There was nothing noble about Stalin,
after all... And besides, Danton was executed because
he was corrupt and Hebert because he lead a very
violent faction!
I would like to know what is your
opinion.
Thanks a lot!!!
Anca
