Mark at Foxwoods on July 6
- Hi everyone:
Been a while since we have had any activity here, so thought I would just stop by.
July 6 and 7 was a great rock weekend for us. We got to see the Rolling Stones on July 7 (first time for me; second time for Greg) in Foxboro; this show was supposed to happen back in June, but as everyone knows, it got postponed due to Mick's heart surgery. It was a lot of fun, and it was a great show. They still sound good, and are worth seeing, if you get the chance. When Mick had the surgery recently, they must have gone in and tweaked a couple of things, because he was all over that stage. Hard to believe he still was doing so great; at 75.
I had gotten an email from Foxwoods 2 weeks prior to July 6, that Mark was doing a private show for points members at Foxwoods, so I immediately jumped on it. The tickets were free; all we had to do is call and reserve them (limit of 2), so we said why not. Well, I must tell you; what an awesome show. Mark has a great new show that is probably reminiscent of the old GFR shows, complete with the 2001 theme. There is a video that explores his career, and some great footage of him as well. The sound of the band had changed a bit; it was definitely louder. But they still sound great, and they still do a great job. In talking to Mark later, he thought that he would change it up a bit. To make things short, it was great to see Mark, Hubert, Lawrence, and the new guy on keyboards (I apologize for not getting his name), and they were awesome. It was also great to see (and hear) Hubert singing the lead on We're An American Band; had never heard him sing before, and he sounded great. And Lesia is doing a great job with the merchandising; they have a lot of new great stuff, so check it out on the website if you can't make it to one of the shows.
That's about it from our side; hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer.
Take care, and let's stay in touch.
--Debbie in NH. - Hi Deb,It's always wonderful to hear from you, my dear friend. Glad you and Greg had a great time at the show. Wish the promoters down hear would book him, but there's no indication they will anytime soon.So who else is monitoring this list? Can we get a roll call?RandyOn Jul 17, 2019, at 7:51 PM, "dlwunsch@... [markfarnersrailroad]" <markfarnersrailroad@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Hi everyone:

--Debbie in NH. - Randy, all I can say is if you have any venues down that way call or email them and let them know that Mark is touring and that people want to see him. I'll tell you, even the acoustic show (which Greg and I had a chance to see last fall) is great; it's like someone sitting in your living room without the amps.
Anyone else out there?

I’m at the biggest east coast Bluegrass festival for four days (Grey fox).Wasn’t aware Mark was bringing his new show with the videos and all along with him for all his shows. I just thought it was for his South America tour. I’ve YouTubed every one of those shows and just love his new introductions. Nothing was booked for him that I couldn’t make here on this side of the world.Haven’t seen Mark since last year...I sure do miss him. Hope to see you and Greg at a show soon. --Debbie in NH. - Hey Gregg:
Enjoy that bluegrass festival; those are always great fun. We have a friend who plays in a band up this way called the Parker Hill Band. Great bunch of people. Speaking of bluegrass, have you been to The Caverns in Tennessee yet? Greg and I were there last year to see Del McCoury; what a great place to see a show.
It was really great to see that new intro, and I hope to get to see you at a show soon as well.
Take care and enjoy.

--Debbie in NH. My wife and I Went to see the stones in Buffalo in 2016 with a group of friends . I was wondering which one or two are gonna carry the rest of the band . Charlie didn't carry Keith or Mick didn't carry Ronnie, they'll carried themselves ! I couldn't believe how all of them were dynamic in their own way . A lot of times when these bands perform that are 70+ there's usually one or two that are slow ( chemically preserved?) God bless them . Not these guys , they rocked rich stadium like they were 30....(or like Mark performs today😉). So I can dig where your going with your story Deb. I know a few people that we're going to the show that was canceled . Glad you had a great time !
I know it's only rock and roll....but I like it!🎸

--Debbie in NH.Uncle Kirby took Advantage of a full life ! I was especially fond of the article when it stated how he would meet the younger musicians that exited the stage to give them encouragement and advice . I'm sure it's difficult for any new artist that would follow a well-known act with everyone standing and cheering, then when they come on to perform the audience is not that enthusiastic being not many know your music and all. Most times all it takes is one big hit then you're on your way! I can see why you miss him Randy.
If it moves....Funk it!🎸

True words Randy. We are extremely lucky Mark is kind enough to do a meet and greet every show. I often ask my friends how many times they have met their favorite musician. Most say never. He doesn't have to do this but out of the greatness of his heart he takes the time as if it were only you and him speaking in a room! Mark truly is the most talented humble human being I have ever met. 22 times and counting. It's amazing with life getting in the way how he continues to take the time for you and I. I hear Horror stories of fans that have met musicians and that musician is a total jerk who looks at you like you're a pain and gives you an attitude . Then I often reflect on the graciousness of Mark Farner.

--Debbie in NH. - Hi Deb. If it had strings, Uncle Kirby could play it. He mostly played acoustic guitar and banjo. You can search youtube for Kirby Parker and find a few vids. They're not great quality as they were recorded with a smartphone for the most part. I guess his high point would be the time he jammed with Allison Krouse and her band at a bluegrass festival somewhere. I'm not aware of a recording of it though. Thanks for asking!
- I agree 100% with that Gregg. And when my husband Greg introduced his older (or as he called her my big sister) sister Luanne (who is not very tall; much shorter than Greg and all of us, in fact) to Mark last year in Wisconsin, Mark talked to her and hugged her like he had known her for many years. Luanne still talks about how nice he was to her and to all of us. She asked me if he was always like that, and I said yup, he sure is. In fact, all the guys in Mark's band are very nice whenever we see them.
Speaking of that Wisconsin show last year, there was a Beatles cover band that opened the festivities that day, and they were very good. When we went to see Paul McCartney at Lambeau back in June of this year, that same cover band was there. Greg went up to them after their set, and they remembered him from the show with Mark.
We have been pretty fortunate to have smaller venues around us, and have met some pretty nice people over the years we have been going to those places. I would say that only one country guy that I met many years ago, was kind of rude, it was a special promotion from the radio station, so there's that as well. Later on in his set, he did acknowledge us, so maybe he was having an off day.
Gotta love it, is all I can say.

I guess his high point would be the time he jammed with Allison Krouse and her band at a bluegrass festival somewhere. I'm not aware of a recording of it though. Thanks for asking! As far as the Rolling Stones, the show that we just saw, no one carried anyone; they all did quite fine on their own, and it was a great show. Glad that I got a chance to see them.
And you definitely have that right about Mark; he is always so kind and nice to everyone. Greg and I have traveled to Michigan a couple of times, and seen him at the casino in Petoskey, where he lives. In taking the shuttle bus to the parking lot, the driver even said that he is a great guy and always very nice to everyone in town, too.
