Greg and I were at the Mark Farner Acoustic show at the TCan in Natick MA last night. This venue was very unusual; it was an old firehouse in the city of Natick MA that had been converted into a performance space, and they had a full movie theater upstairs. The capacity of the venue was around 270 people.

If you haven't had the chance to see one of these shows yet, definitely go if you get a chance. It was awesome; like having these guys doing a private show in your living room. The set list had Are You Ready, Mr. Limousine Driver, Little Johnny Hooker, Creepin, Mean Mistreater, an awesome version of Superstition, which was a solo by Dusty, Bad TIme, the Locomotion, Some Kind Of Wonderful, and Closer to Home, as well as a few others, which are escaping me at the moment. But WOW; what a great show.  As much as we love the rockin, it was very refreshing to see the songs performed in an acoustic style. They still rocked, but in a totally different way. And some of the stories that Mark told were very interesting; even answered a question I have always wondered about, like who his vocal inspiration was; a man by the name of Howard Tate; definitely going to look that one up.

We had never met Dusty before; what a super nice guy he is. He came right up to us, and wasn't shy at all; very genuine and down to earth. We became old friends very quickly; it is very easy to see that he loves to be out and around with Mark. Lawrence was there with them as well, and just as nice as he always is. And of course Mark  was right in his element. He told us yet again how he loved the birthday cake that Sue and I had gotten him in Milwaukee, and what a great time he had with all of us there.

The Road Dog for this show was a wonderful lady who had come all the way from Utah for this show, and  built a Boston vacation around the show. Her name is Sheri Evans-Olson; she goes by Shea for short. Greg and Shea and I had dinner together before the show, which was very enjoyable.  Shea brought a beautiful book with her that she had made with photos and material from Greg Werely, who if I understand correctly, was on Roadkill a very long time ago, and Shea also had some other photos as well. It was a memorial to Jessie, and also had  photos from some of Mark's shows over the years, including his recent 70th birthday party, and it was beautifully done. We were right behind her when she presented it to Mark; watching it unfold as Shea gave this book to Mark  was very moving.

So yes; last night was great. And again, if the acoustic show is coming anywhere near you, definitely check it out.

Going forward, and to keep this going, would anyone be interested in the possibility of getting as many of us together as possible and going to one of Mark's shows, like once a year or couple of years? In talking to Sue recently, it had been way too long since that had happened.  Or, if we can't do that, how about doing another plate, or banner, or something along those lines? Just curious as to what your thoughts are.

Hope everyone is having  great weekend.

It was a busy birthday week for me, otherwise I would have been at that show, Deb. Good for you and Greg for such a great night. And of course those who meet

And of course those who meet you, (and Greg) instantly fall into the comfort level zone, so that makes for a even better time... I know I did! Those shows are awesome. I've YouTubed some of Marks acoustic shows and promised myself to attend one . My wife Nancy and I are already committed to different obligations throughout the year but that would be fun to attend a show with whoever can make it. I've gone to California and Florida so what the heck. I remember a small group one time saying, you flew to the other side of the country from NY for this show??? And my response was hey, it's Mark Farner from GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!! Country road, someone, he let me love, miss my baby, loneliest rider would be great acoustic.

        If it moves....Funk it!🎸
