well, no takers in the third seven...

but, the number of members has jumped to 489!

so now it's a two year project!

but, with the changes at the homepage, the list of members is no
longer alphabetical, but chronological, so we're going to have to
start again: so, here's the idea once again: all you have to do is
introduce yourself and tell us about your projects or what sort of
mail-art you like to recieve and we will (all 482 of us!) send you
      brilliant and amazing things!

okay so here's the lucky seven:

                        Hello Gary,

I started making mail art in 1979.... an art professor of mine got me started... and sent and received art for about 10 years and then eventually dropped out... I am back again. Do a search for Ray Johnson... that will give you some background... a base to work from... I would say the most fun for me wasn't answering the mail calls.... except I looked forward to the documentation with the names and addresses of the artists involved... I would send something to everyone on the list... I remember one month I mailed almost 1000 postcard collages... and one month I received over 2000 piece of art through the mail... it was insane... and wonderful... One month I received a small box from I think Poland.. this was pre fall of the Soviet Union... inside the box we a dozen live earth worms... The artist somehow smuggled it to the west and it mailed out.... That is frigging insane... These earth worms were Freeeee.... I placed them in some woods in the Sacramento, CAl area....
Mail art/Postal art/Correspdence art is about communicating your aesthetic....

Send something to the 2 shows I am having... have fun with it... be honest to yourself as an artist and stamp licker :)...

                        Peace,

                        John

                          Hi Gary

My names Lauren and I have been involved in MailArt for a couple of
years. I guess i started by sending out pieces to calls i found on
groups like these that I found interesting and thought I could make
something i liked for. I was worried at 1st that my work wouldn't be
good enough but then this is not what mail art is about. Over time I
got to know a few people and although I am not big on people's list I
have a few friends and I do get mailart from different countries. After
I had been on the scene for a while I set up my own mailart call and I
have had quite a few pieces from that - it csan be hard keeping up with
making pieces to send back though. Its about talking to people, looking
on websites and replying to calls.
A good site for calls in www.mailart.org - calls are listed under the
countries they are in if you want to start with your own country 1st.

Any other questions feel free to ask - I feel like a newbie alot of the
time but look forward to the day I have post coming in all the time.

If you fancy joining another yahoo group I set up another group for
MailArt after one I was on got over run with spam

Calls for Mail Art - I can always send you an invite if you are
interested but if you search for it you should find it fine!

                          Lauren :)
