4921RE: [magnifiers] FW: Magnifier for ubuntu linux
- Oct 1, 2009There are two ways. First, the long graphical way which will make sure the
magnifier comes up in the future:
For Ubuntu 9.04 you must:
Click on the System Menu
Click on Preferences
Click on Assistive Technologies
Check the "Enable Assistive Technologies" checkbox
Click on Preferred Applications
Click on the Accessibility tab
Choose either Orca with magnifier or Magnifier without screen reader from
the "Visual" combo box
Check the Run at start checkbox
Click Close and Logout
Click Log out
Second, the short way to launch it once and go from there:
Type "orca -e magnifier" without the quotes
Or, check out Vinux 2.0 from http://vinux.org.uk/ which is Debian Linux (the
core of Ubuntu) with all of the low vision and blindness accessibility
features implemented from the start.

Who has experience with the screen magnifier in Unbuntu and knows how to
Regards Peter Verhoeven
I found the preferences and indicated that magnification has to be
activated. However nothing seems to happen.
It would be great if someone could give me some tips about how to set
magnification level, color enhancement, magnification type and so on...
if this is supported in ubuntu.
Thank you in advance.
No, I have no experience with Ubuntu, but at
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/accessibility I read:
magnifier and on-screen keyboard are all activated using the Gnome
Assistive Technology Preferences panel, Found in the System menu
under Preferences .
If that does not help please let me know and I will send a message to
the magnifiers list, where Ubuntu users are also active.
